Another big name is off the market.

The Panthers came into the offseason with needs at wideout and in their secondary. They received help in the former by trading for Torey Smith but took a step back in the latter by trading away Daryl Worley.

After cutting longtime cornerback Teddy Williams and former captain Kurt Coleman, this team desperately needed help to defend the top options of the NFC South.

They may have found the answer by inking veteran Bashaud Breeland.

There are a number of teams who had Breeland towards the top of their wish list.

As mentioned above, Breeland is exactly what the Panthers needed. They finished 18th in passing yards allowed last season, and 24th in interceptions. They needed a change of pace, and bringing in someone with Carolina ties made this an easy decision.

The NFC South is loaded when it comes to wide receivers. The Panthers have to face a stacked Saints offense, Mike Evans, and Julio Jones. Facing those passing attacks six times a season means you better be prepared with a loaded secondary.

Breeland may not be the sole answer this team needs, but this signing is certainly a step in the right direction.
