At 30 years old, playing in the NFL can start to take a toll on your body, especially at a position like offensive tackle.
For Austin Howard, he's getting up there in age, and things are not going to get easier for him.
The #Ravens are not picking up the option for RT Austin Howard, source said. A right tackle who started 16 games is on the market at a very thin position.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 13, 2018
After playing just one year with the Baltimore Ravens, the team has decided not to keep Howard around, which seems to be a solid decision based on fan reaction.
Austin Howard was never the answer for us at guard. Thus I have no issue not bringing him back he struggled in key games with flags and miss assignments. There are plenty of quality linemen talent in this year’s draft. Also freed up more cap releasing injury prone RB— Ibrahim Bangs (@DMVSportsMafia) March 13, 2018
Unfortunately, Howard is heading into a tough market.
The good news is that he managed to play in all 16 games of the regular season, so he will likely attract some interest just based on the fact that he has some durability.
A possible landing spot for Howard could be with the New York Giants, who are in desperate need of a new offensive tackle.
