This is not the news Tampa Bay Rays fans want to hear.

The team has already decimated their roster, looking forward to what their young players have to offer, specifically some of their top prospects. However, that's not off to the best start after this news.

According to a report, top prospect pitcher Jose De Leon has a torn UCL and will require Tommy John surgery.

De Leon is the Rays' No. 7 overall prospect and was acquired by the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for Logan Forsythe before the start of the 2017 season.

This isn't the first time De Leon has experienced the injury bug. He appeared in just 10 games in the minors last season after three stints on the disabled list.

This is a tough obstacle for a guy like De Leon. At age 25, he's trying to make a name for himself, but now he will be sidelined for over a year. De Leon had a chance to make the club after Spring Training, but now he will be focused on recovery.

This comes in the wake of Rays top prospect Brent Honeywell also undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery a little over a week ago.

Not a good spring so far for the Rays, who are already expected be one of the worst teams in baseball.
