We all know this is a quarterback-driven league.
A team may have a solid roster, but they find themselves struggling to win games because of the man behind center. Passing has never been more important in the NFL, and having a gunslinger that can get the job done is a necessity.
Which is why teams interested in Kirk Cousins will have to break the bank if they want him to be their next quarterback.
Cousins is expected to cash in this offseason thanks to teams who believe they are just one quarterback away from winning a Super Bowl.
Kirk Cousins value will get inflated hugely for one simple reason: multiple teams see themselves as "a QB away" from being Super Bowl contenders. DEN and MIN will drive up the market.— Andy Benoit (@Andy_Benoit) February 12, 2018
If you thought Jimmy G's contract was huge, you haven't seen anything yet.
To be fair, it's not like Cousins is some mediocre quarterback that will be lucking his way into a large sum of money. He's thrown for at least 25 touchdowns and 4,000+ yards in each of the last three seasons. He's clearly earned what's coming his way.
Still, you have to wonder what his contract would end up looking like if teams weren't desperate for a player of his caliber. Right now, it looks like the Vikings and Broncos are the two teams expected to battle it out for the star QB.

There are teams who aren't even close to contention that will inquire about Cousins' interest in heading their way, but it's teams like Minnesota and Denver that are desperate.
All it takes is a capable player like Cousins to put them in the discussion of Super Bowl glory, making a big contract seem necessary.
The Cousins sweepstakes hasn't even begun, but it's going to be insane.
