Did anyone truly see this coming? The answer to that is no.
Blake Griffin was traded to the Detroit Pistons and people across the globe are still trying to understand what just happened.
The Clippers and Pistons have agreed on a deal to trade Blake Griffin for Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic, a first-round and a second-round draft pick, league sources tell ESPN.— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) January 29, 2018
The trade came as a shock to many, considering that Griffin just signed a five-year, $173 million deal this season. One former Clipper was surprised by this move, and that was Matt Barnes.
The recently-retired forward took to Instagram and let it be known that the main cause of the Clippers woes is head coach Doc Rivers. Here is said post.
His caption read, "So you trade this guy after paying him this much money..? 🤔 When everyone in the organization & everyone who’s played there knows DOC IS THE PROBLEM!!! Smfh cold game! Make sure you pack a jacket BG!!! Love Bro"
There is no love lost between Barnes and Rivers. Barnes called out Rivers publicly a couple of weeks ago, saying that Rivers led to the demise of the Clippers. Barnes played in Los Angeles from 2012-2015, where he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies.
After that trade in 2015, Barnes went on the record to say that Rivers, "never wanted [him]."
With Griffin's trade, the team appears to be going into, "sell mode." If that is the case, Rivers' days in Los Angeles could be numbered, and we'll be sure to get some commentary from Barnes IF that does happen.
