5 Takeaways From Alabama's Epic OT Victory Over Georgia in the CFP Title Game

Holy Toledo, what a ball game. Throughout the first half, it looked like Alabama's offense would never show up, but then, Nick Saban made the call at halftime which powered the Crimson Tide to a thrilling 26-23 overtime win over the Bulldogs. Here's five takeaways from the action.

5. Tua Tagovailoa is the Future of Alabama

For those who thought Jalen Hurts was struggling in this one, just about everyone agreed with you. This includes Nick Saban. At half, Saban pulled Hurts for Tua Tagovailoa and the freshman sensation powered the Crimson Tide to an unreal comeback. For this young man to get the job done in his first year in college is unreal. That game-winning 41-yard TD pass to DeVonta Smith was a thing of legends.

4. Nick Chubb Failed to Live Up to the Hype

Throughout the year, Nick Chubb has been considered one of the top running backs in the country. And for good reason. However, with the National Championship on the line, Chubb struggled mightily, finishing with 16 carries for 21 yards. Tonight was his opportunity to steal the show, and he failed to do so.

3. Calvin Ridley and DeVonta Smith Are Beasts

Late in the 4th quarter, did you really expect anyone else for Bama to come down with the game-changing catch? With less than four minutes to go, and Bama down 20-13, Tua rolled out of the pocket and fired a rope for... you guessed it: Calvin Ridley. Ridley came down with the acrobatic catch to even things up at 20-20. He's a truly special player and makes big plays when his team needs him too. Then, in overtime, DeVonta Smith ran the perfect route and made the big catch to give Bama the victory. What a night for these two.

2. Jake Fromm Will Win a National Title Before He Leaves UGA

Yes, this stings right now for freshman Jake Fromm and the rest of the Georgia Bulldogs. That's the textbook definition of a heartbreaking loss. At the same time, this team has plenty of youth, highlighted by Fromm, who is just a true freshman. This team will be back and will capture a National Championship before Fromm graduates.

1. Nick Saban Really is the GOAT

Nick Saban just won his fifth National Championship in his nine seasons with the Crimson Tide. That's absolutely unheard of. Saban made the big call at half to bench Hurt to bring in the freshman in Tua. That took GUTS. The call worked out and Saban once again owns the college football world.
