Bruce Arians is riding off into the sunset.
In a move that had been rumored for quite some time, the Cardinals head coach is expected to retire, creating another head coaching vacancy in the NFL.
Arians had a very successful tenure with Arizona, leading them to the playoffs on several occasions. But eventually the grind took its toll, and Arians has been through plenty of health issues to boot.
Cardinals’ HC Bruce is expected to retire from coaching, per league sources. Leaving the game on his terms. Another HC vacancy expected.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 1, 2018
This really was a lost season for the Cardinals, especially after Carson Palmer's injury. Heading into next year with uncertainty behind center and in the receiving corps (what will Larry Fitzgerald do), Arizona could use a fresh face to provide a jolt to the franchise.
One could make the case that 2017 was Bruce Arians' best coaching job with Arizona. With all the injuries and such, getting to 8-8 is pretty damn good.— Adam Green (@theAdamGreen) January 1, 2018
Arians is a respected coach around the league, and should he choose to come back he'll have several suitors. He's quietly one of the best offensive minds in the game today.
But for now, we hope he gets plenty of time with his family.
