Much like a gender reveal after finding out you're having a baby, discovering a newly-signed superstar's jersey number is cause for some early excitement.
After signing with the Los Angeles Angels on Friday, we now know which number Japanese pitcher Shohei Ohtani will wear:
Lucky number 17!
The number was last worn by Angels outfielder Shane Robinson this past season, and he just became a free agent. Even though we have yet to see how Ohtani's bat will translate over from Japan into the MLB, it's a pretty safe bet that he'll do better than Robinson, who hit just .178/.257/.225 in two years with the Halos.
Sadly, Ohtani opted against using Sports Twitter's most coveted number:
