There is no way to sugarcoat this one, Cam Newton is an idiot.

Newton was in the middle of what was an uneventful, and by all means normal, press conference when a female reporter asked him a question that inexplicably raised Newton's eyebrow.

Panthers beat reporter Jourdan Rodrigue, a female, laid the ultimate softball for the Carolina QB to smile, nod and maybe even toss in a "Yes" with this line:

"Devin Funchess has seemed to really embrace the physicality of his routes and getting those extra yards. Does that give you a little bit of enjoyment seeing him truck sticking people out there?"

Here was Newton's response.

"It's funny to hear a female talk about routes. That's funny. Routes," Newton chuckled to himself before getting back to the interview.

The biggest question here is, "What was Cam thinking?" Did he really think this would fly, and everyone would chime in with a hearty laugh, then everyone could get back to doing their man things?

Newton's sexist joke blindsided reporters in the room, and has already left people all over scratching their heads at where this came from.

Completely agree.

While the comment itself is inexcusable, and that he continued this afterward, the fact that Newton even just impulsively blurted that out without even thinking of the repercussions goes far beyond highly questionable.

Newton will undoubtedly address his remarks on a public platform, but the damage is done, and it's a very disappointing look for one of the top faces of the league.
