It's been a bit of a rough stretch for the Cubs, who suffered a tough 6-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks this evening.
To make matters worse, St. Louis has won eight-straight games and are now tied with Chicago for first place in the NL Central.
But tonight, with two runners on, Ben Zobrist struck out to end the game. Normally on a game-ending strikeout, the teams would walk off the field and get ready for the next contest. Here, though, Zobrist, Joe Maddon and others were rightfully furious.
What did the ump see here?
This is how tonight's Cubs game ended. RT if the MLB needs to do something about these umps. pic.twitter.com/gN4qm7NCz9— Cubs Live (@Cubs_Live) August 13, 2017
I'm not one to complain about calls or blame umpires for losses. At the end of the day, the Cubs needed to make some plays to come out with a win.
At the same time, though, this was an embarrassing call. The Cubs will look to get back to their winning ways tomorrow. Let's hope the umpires can clean it up a bit.
