One day after Aaron Hernandez was found dead in his prison cell, the details behind his death are still making their way out.

According to a statement released by Massachusetts' District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr., the state medical examiner officially ruled the former tight end's death a suicide, with the cause of death asphyxia by hanging.

Hernandez was discovered early Wednesday morning, having hanged himself from a bed sheet in his prison cell. New updates have been released, however, and it looks like the former Patriots TE had been planning his suicide for "weeks."

Three handwritten notes were found next to a Bible in Hernandez's cell, with the words "John 3:16" written on his forehead, according to CNN.

Per the DailyMail, Hernandez had given away all of his belongings to cellmates. In addition, He also covered the floor of his cell with soap, so if he lost his nerve, he wouldn't be able to save himself.

Hernandez was serving a life sentence, without parole, stemming from the murder of Odin Lloyd in 2013. Last week, Hernandez was acquitted of a double murder during a separate trial.

He was 27 at the time of his suicide.
