The influx of international talent has been a key cog in MLS' development over the years. There has been quite an increase of talent coming to America, and it's becoming more and more common to see European stars deciding to take his talents to the league.
David Villa, Andrea Pirlo, Sebastian Giovinco, and most recently Bastian Schweinsteiger have decided to move into America. But the influx is far from being over. Here are five European players that could arrive to the MLS in the near future.
5. Andres Iniesta
Few can doubt Andres Iniesta's talent, as the FC Barcelona playmaker is one of the best midfielders in the past 20 years. However, he's not what he used to be and he's been losing his place as a key player in Los Blaugranas. He's been long coveted by MLS, and there's buzz that he might try to join an American franchise if he doesn't extend his deal after this season.
4. Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney's situation is quite interesting. He's clearly one of the best strikers in Europe, but during the past two years he hasn't been anywhere near his level. He lost his place in Manchester United and the England national team. And the MLS interest is pretty clear. It seems it is a matter of time before we see the Manchester United starlet dazzling in the league.
3. Jonathan dos Santos
The talented Villarreal midfielder has been linked with a move to MLS over the past year, and there's a rumor that Los Angeles Galaxy want to sign him so they can pair him up with his brother, Gio dos Santos. The Mexican midfielder currently plays for Villarreal.
2. Sergio Busquets
Sergio Busquets is not coming to the MLS any time soon, but there's no question the FC Barcelona midfielder is reportedly interested in trying his luck on American soil. Busquets has said on repeated occasions he would like to finish his career playing stateside, but he's only 28 so we might have to wait a few more years before he comes here.
1. Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The rumor is out there: Los Angeles Galaxy want to make Zlatan the highest-paid player in MLS history, and the Swedish star might be out of contract once the Premier League season is over. Manchester United might want to extend Zlatan, but it will be his decision whether he moves to America or not. But all signs indicate he will play in America sooner rather than later.
